Dr Vivek Sukumar completed his MCh in Surgical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, following which he did a fellowship in GI and peritoneal surface oncology. He has trained extensively in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgeries. He has received multiple international awards for innovative and challenging procedures, including the best video award at the KSELS 2021 conference. He has more than 30 international publications in PubMed-indexed journals. He has a particular interest in sphincter-saving surgeries (ISR) and extended resections, as well as exenteration for locally advanced rectal cancers.
Besides treating colorectal cancers, he performs minimally invasive surgery for endometrial cancer and cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer and peritoneal metastases. He is an active member of several surgical societies, such as the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology, the Association of Colo-Rectal Surgeons of India, the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India, and the Society of Peritoneal Surface Oncology. He is also a member of international organisations such as the European Society of Coloproctology and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
